About Jay

About Matt

About Peter

Though Smith, Smorey, and Diamond formed in June 2007, the members of the band first crossed paths about a year and a half earlier. While Jay Smorey was teaching at Central Heights Christian School (2005-2006), he noticed the Dennis Chambers-influenced playing of Peter Diamond as he played in chapel. After chapel, Jay approached Peter about his drum playing, only to find that they had many of the same musical influences and likes. This led Jay to join the chapel praise band, which created opportunities to jam with Peter before and after the praise team’s practice. Peter already knew Matt and invited him to a 3-piece jam after practice one day. The three had talked about starting a band, but work and school schedules prevented anything from happening.

Finally, the three were able to schedule an official first band practice in June of 2007 and began to work on original material. Their first songs include Smooth, Tyquisha’s Boogie, Slip N Slide, and Too Much Funk.

The group is largely influenced by an amalgamation of jazz, rock, and progressive musicians, which can be heard in the music. The more significant of these influences include Guthrie Govan, Victor Wooten, Greg Howe, Dennis Chambers, Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, Mike Stern, and Steve Vai.
